I am working on a story about General A.J. Twiggs, which your library has material on, and I have been able to find nothing but a picture of him. Could someone in your library send me information on his life and military service in the Coinfederate Army? Your help would sure be appreciated.

After some preliminary research in our archives and book collection, I felt I needed a bit of clarification in order to answer your question. We have information on two likely Twiggs within our collection. One is Major General David E. Twiggs who was a Confederate officer in the Civil War and certainly the most well-know of the two gentlemen. Though he served a great deal of his military career in Texas, he was born and died here in Augusta. The other is Albert Jefferson Twiggs who served in WWII.
Is the A.J. Twiggs you asked about possibly the WWII veteran? Albert Jefferson Twiggs was, incidentally, a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and therefore might have been pictured in a Confederate uniform. Perhaps if you could refer me to where you found the photograph in question, it might help accurately answer your question.
